Immersive Carpets

Carpeted floors with character

We value our own personal style – whether that involves fashion, interior design or choosing music that suits our tastes. In our modern world, there are more and more opportunities to express our individuality in new ways, every day. A trend that does not stop at floor coverings, as the DOMOTEX trade fair recently proved.

“Unique Youniverse” was the focus theme of this year’s DOMOTEX, the world’s leading trade fair for carpets and floor coverings held in Hanover, Germany.

The trend towards customization and personalization was discussed by experts and visualized for visitors at various points on the exhibition grounds. Innovative printing technologies make it possible to turn floor coverings into unique design experiences, enabling very individual needs to be realized. For example, it is now easy to create even a one-off, individually designed carpet and print it with a unique pattern, picture or logo.

Immersive carpets are also rapidly gaining ground. These give the impression of being completely immersed in a virtual environment and make the border between the floor and the wall disappear. A powerful effect that leaves a lasting impression, whether in hotels, offices or in your own home.

Domotex

Freudenberg Performance Materials implemented an immersive concept on its stand too, so that Domotex visitors experienced it as a feel-good oasis on the shores of an Alpine lake. For the immersive carpet, a high-performance spunbonded fabric was used as the carrier material. With tufted carpet backings from Freudenberg, carpet manufacturers can offer their customers individual, creative solutions.

Sustainability on the rise

However, the Freudenberg carrier material does not only score in terms of creativity. “Sustainability is a topic of ever-increasing importance, as was demonstrated by the discussions we shared with customers on our stand”, confirmed Matthias Göttel, Application Engineer at Freudenberg Performance Materials in Kaiserslautern, Germany. “More and more manufacturers are coming to value the use of renewable or recycled raw materials. We support our customers in this respect with carpet backings made from recycled polyester, which are also free from chemical binders.”

In close cooperation with our customers, Freudenberg Performance Materials is able to develop the spunbonded nonwoven from recyclates to meet the growing technical requirements of the latest carpet designs, such as adapting to new printing techniques. “This is a technologically demanding challenge, but we feel we are well equipped to deal with it”, Göttel continued. So there is nothing standing in the way of combining creative ideas with sustainable solutions in the future.
