Primary backings for molded car carpets

Backings for tufting are crucial in the production of complex shapes through deep draw molding with minimum cycle times, ensuring carpets with long-term stability. Thanks to their high elongation and tensile strength, these fabrics facilitate high deformation, making our spunlaid nonwovens the preferred choice of manufacturers serving a wide range of light and heavy vehicle platforms.

One key reason manufacturers prefer our nonwovens is their excellent behaviour during processing and outstanding performance in the finished product. Depending on the required deformation and molding temperature, the optimal primary backing can be developed leveraging our wide range of technological capabilities.

Secondary backings for molded car carpets

Suitable for use in the industry’s deepest molds, our nonwoven secondary backings are gaining popularity among producers of molded car carpets.

Nonwovens in this product category not only provide excellent reinforcement and rigidity but also reliably improve mold release by preventing polymer bleed-through. Our nonwovens are designed to ensure excellent adhesion to a wide range of heavy layers used in tufted car carpeting.

Backings for car mats

A key requirement for car mats is that they lie flat and remain flat throughout their service life, even under heavy use. The primary backing used for tufting plays a crucial role in achieving these properties.

Colback and Lutradur nonwovens are perfectly suited for this application. Thanks to their exceptional stability, they prevent bowing and dishing. These materials also facilitate strong tuft bind and enhance the abrasion resistance of the finished mat. Colback’s excellent tear strength and tufting quality often allow for the same performance to be achieved with a lower weight primary backing.
