Take off in style. Just enjoy calm!
The new Terminal 3 at Baiyun Airport places exceptional demands on noise levels and the atmosphere in the room. Soundtex solved the problem.

China Eastern Airlines' C919 marked the start of a new era for Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. As the aircraft took off from the newly built fifth runway, the new Terminal 3 was officially opened. The port city in southern China shines with its avant-garde architecture, which bears the signature of Zaha Hadid, among others. The new terminal impressively continues this style and demonstrates what modern architecture can achieve today.
30 million passengers. One terminal. One mission: create calm.
Imagine this: the departure hall of Terminal 3 has a constant noise level of over 70 decibels. Check-in announcements echo off the walls, wheeled suitcases rattle past, and thousands of conversations blend into an acoustic cacophony. Deep underground, six high-speed trains and three intercity lines thunder through the building—their low-frequency vibrations permeating every corner of the terminal.
For a hub of this size, noise is not just a nuisance. It is a stress factor that exhausts passengers, hinders communication and would even distract air traffic controllers in the tower.
The solution works invisibly – across 250,000 square meters.
Following its successful use at Daxing Airport, among other locations, Soundtex from Freudenberg Performance Materials is now being used throughout Terminal 3, covering a total area of 250,000 m² under the blossoming “Guangzhou Flower Crown.” The innovative acoustic fleece is bonded to elegant metal ceilings with a wood grain finish and invisibly absorbs noise exactly where it is generated: at check-in counters, in waiting areas, and along passageways.

The result is immediately noticeable. Even at peak times, when hundreds of passengers are checking in at the Wood Cotton Flower check-in islands at the same time, the staff's instructions remain crystal clear. The acoustic atmosphere suddenly seems orderly, almost relaxed.
A technology that impresses in every point.
Soundtex – used at the new super airport.
It is a combination of precise acoustic performance and practical benefits:
Noise reduction at the highest level: With a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of over 0.70, the material absorbs medium to high-frequency noise particularly effectively. This includes frequencies such as the babble of voices and the sharp clicking of high heels on hard floors, which the human ear finds particularly disturbing. As a Class A non-combustible material, Soundtex also meets the most stringent fire safety standards for airport buildings and offers uncompromising safety.
Manufactured from environmentally friendly nonwoven fabric without formaldehyde emissions, it complies with the highest Chinese and international environmental standards. This means no hidden pollutants, no chemical odour – and thus an effective protective shield for the respiratory tract, which is particularly important for families with children.
From innovation to experience – Soundtex impresses.
What is happening in Terminal 3 is more than just technical noise control. It is the restoration of quality of life in a space that welcomes tens of thousands of people every day. Where sensory overload once prevailed, clarity now reigns. Where exhaustion was normal, serenity has returned.
Soundtex works completely in the background – invisibly integrated into the architecture, low-maintenance, and durable. For passengers, this means less stress, better orientation, and an overall more pleasant travel experience. For operators, it is a future-proof solution that meets the highest standards.
With its large-scale deployment in Terminal 3, Soundtex continues its success story. The message is clear: even in the world's most acoustically challenging environments, silence can be created – not through isolation, but through intelligent materials innovation.
Ready for takeoff? In complete tranquility, of course.
